Glucose

The glucose test is a blood test used to measure glucose (blood sugar) levels. Glucose is the major source of energy for the body and the brain's cells. Glucose is produced when carbohydrates are digested and is then transported to cells throughout the body via the hormone Insulin.

The glucose blood test is typically used to diagnose and monitor prediabetes, diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, and gestational), hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.

This is a fasting blood test. Please fast for 10 hours prior to your blood draw. During your fast, do drink plenty of water. If you are diabetic or pregnant, consult your physician before fasting. The turnaround time for this test is 1 to 2 business days.
